HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
SET FOR MAY 10
The City of Tucson/Pima County Household Hazardous Waste Program will be in our neighborhood on Saturday, May 10th to collect and dispose of your household hazardous waste (HHW).
For your convenience, the program staff will set up a collection point on Croyden Street at the Treat Avenue alignment walkway on May 10th.
They will collect materials from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
Common household and automotive products become a hazard to the environment when disposed of improperly.
Leftover quantities of these products should never be poured down the drain, put in the trash, or stored for excessive periods of time.
Since 1990 the program, jointly funded by the City and County, has diverted over 9 million pounds of hazardous materials from landfill and sewer disposal in Pima County.
The success of the program is reliant on participation of as many citizens as possible. Last year over 26,000 households disposed of hazardous waste through the program.
The main facility is open on Fridays and Saturdays for collections, and satellite outreach sites are open on the first Saturday of each month.
A partial list of acceptable wastes are:
Automotive Fluids Expired Medications Batteries
Paint Products Hobby Chemicals Pesticides
Household Cleaners Drain Openers Polishes
Lawn & Garden Products Pool Chemicals Solvents

Help protect our environment from household hazardous wastes. Use of the
disposal program diverts wastes from the environment, but there are five actions
you can take to help prevent the generation of hazardous waste in your home:
1. Buy only the amount you need, use all that you buy
2. Read and follow directions and warning labels
3. Store properly and in labeled containers
4. Take leftover quantities to the HHW program
5. Use safer alternative products when possible
The staff of the HHW program will be available to answer questions during the collection, or you may call them at their information hotline at 888-6947.
Please use this opportunity to clean out your sheds, storage rooms, and garages and safely eliminate unused hazardous materials from your homes.
