Broadview Farms Neighborhood Association
BFNA Meeting Minutes
Thursday, August 10, 2006
First Christian Church
6031 Goodrich Dr.
The meeting was called to order at
7:40p.m. by Ronda Yoder, President Elect, who welcomed members and guests. The
first item of business was the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting
from July. Joe Flynn made a motion to accept the minutes, and Tommy Bolyard
seconded it. The minutes were
accepted as read. Joe Flynn gave
the financial report of $630 in the bank.
City Council candidates Sam Hall and
Steve Kolokouris presented their campaigns to the members and guests. Captain
Alexander of the Pensacola Police Department addressed neighborhood issues and
presented ideas on how we could have a safer neighborhood.
Old business: With the deadline for the PCIP grant
application nearing, much of the remainder of the meeting was given to
presenting design options for the neighborhood entrance signs. There were 32
members present; so all votes were determined based on the majority of votes
cast. Votes were taken on the following categories:
Brick color (3 color choices): 27
for Wellington Queen, a dark rust colored brick
Sign background color (3 color
choices: Blue, Burgundy, Hunter Green) - Hunter Green: 19 voted for, 7 against
Sign embossing (words & trim)
color (3 color choices: Cream, White, Gold) – Cream: 19 voted for, 7
against
Font (3 choices: Serif, Sans serif,
and Script) – Slight script (Apple Chancery) 21 votes, Serif (Times) 8
votes, Sans Serif (Helvetica) 0 votes
Height of columns (Taller or shorter
than middle section): Tall – 19 votes; Short – 5 votes
Shape of embedded sign (2 choices:
oval and hexagonal): Oval - 3 votes; Hexagonal - 16 votes
We were slightly short on volunteer
hours to meet the city requirements for the 2:1 match, so we requested more
members to donate some time. We were able to get more hours than we needed.
Ronda gave an update on the progress
of the library project and sidewalk installation for Langley Ave.
New business: City Council
candidate Paul Young was unable to attend the August meeting, but will be here
for the September meeting to present his campaign. A proposal to change the
By-laws regarding the frequency of the association meetings was presented for
members to consider. A vote will be taken at the September meeting concerning
this issue. An announcement reminding members that September is also the month
to elect new officers and to consider becoming a board member of the
association was made. Volunteers were sought to bring snacks to the September
meeting. Two members agreed.
Penny made a motion to adjourn the
meeting, and Carol seconded it.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Yoder, Secretary
