Satellite Dish Guidelines

Our deed restrictions prohibit satellite dishes. When they were written, dishes were several feet across and took up half of the back yard. Now they are smaller and much more inconspicuous. We recently contacted the president of Virginia Homes to discuss their original intent and what they recommend. Legally, people can have dishes (FTC law), but the Homeowners Association can stipulate guidelines for balancing the need for information with aesthetics. If a cable provider does not give you what you need, a dish is permitted by law.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Discreetly mount on the rear or roof of the house so it is not visible from the street.  OR
  • Place in the back yard and disguise by plants or trees so it is not visible from the street.
  • Dishes should not be on the front of the house
  • Remove unused dishes, and please, no more than one dish.
  • Do not expect your dish provider to know these guidelines.  They will install according to their personal preference.
  • A basic guideline is: if you can see it from the street, it's needs to be moved.
  • Contact bvhainfo@yahoo.com if you have questions.
