Yesterday, Wednesday 08-06-08, my wife and I observed a RAT in our back yard.  It is nesting under our neighbor's back yard patio porch.  We observed this rodent taking pieces of bread I had thrown out earlier for the birds and returning to it's nest next store.  This morning while in my back yard as I was cutting grass and doing other yard work a RAT was seen twice under my bird feeders eating seed that has droped on the ground.  Needless to say I have cleaned out my bird feeders, cleaned up, as best I could all the seed that was on the ground and threw it in the garbage can.  Everyone in our city should be advised if you have a dog that you should clean up any fecal matter that your dog deposits.  Dog Poop is a favorite food for RATS, and I was also told that pet owners should never leave pet food out because this attracts rodents.

Metro Louisville Rodent Control has been contacted by me and my neighbor and hopefully they will respond soon or I will call in a professional to get rid of this problem.

I hope no one else in our city is having this problem, and if you do please call Metro Louisville at telephone number 311 and adivse them immediately of the problem.  Hopefully this will not be a problem that our city will have to endure because of all the road construction that is going on around us.  If anyone has heard of problems with  RATS in our area please come to our next council meeting on Monday August 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm at our City Hall.  If you cannot come please respond to this notice.

The below listed website was sent to me by Jennifer Osborne who is Ken Fleming's assistant. Ken is our 7th District Councilman.

This website is on the City of Louisville website and is titleed Preventing Rat Infestation.

On Wednesday August 13, 2008 a RAT was killed in our neighbors backyard while their grass was being cut by a private contractor.  The grass contractor, Bill Netherton, ran over the rodent while the rodent was running throught the yard.

This afternoon, Monday August 18, an inspector from Rodent Control came to my house for an inspection.  Needless to say since he did not see any evidence that there were RATS on my property he would not bait my property where I saw the rodent exit my yard.

My advise is to read the brochure that was sent me last week by Ken Flemings office, our Metro Councilman, concerning RATS and if you see one check your property for any evidence and call 311 if there are signs as described it the brochure.
