Yard Signs

Posted in: Woodlawn Park

Two weeks before the election, I put a couple of yard signs in the front yard showing our support for two particular candidates. But I've always been a little curious what purpose that really serves. Surely I'm not going to change anyone's mind or win anyone over with a yard sign. With the response I get on here sometimes, I would actually think it would compel others to vote for the competition. Sometimes, it feels a little like self expression, like bumper stickers. Sometimes, it feels like I'm helping nudge forward something that could actually take flight. And sometimes it just feels silly. So what are your thoughts on political yard signs?

Also, an informal survey of the neighborhood before the election showed Anne Northrup and McCain/Palin signs 5 -to- 1 over Yarmuth and Oboma signs, but the Republican candidates won our precinct by much narrower margins. That was a little bit of a surprise. Does that mean the Democrates did better with undecided voters? Hummm. And wasn't McCain's and Oboma's speeches Tuesday night very inspiring? I thought so.

And congratulations to everyone running for the city council. I thought it impressive that every one of you got roughly 200 votes. I think that's a real show of confidence by those you represent.

George Langford-Councilman

Thanks Mr. Langford. I stand corrected. I meant to say 400 in my original post.
