BCA General Meeting
December 12, 2008

Meeting called to order 7:15 pm

Police Report (Officer Pickett)
Presentation of crime stats / not much change from previous months
Day labor site run by Voz has about ~75 laborers a day & only ~25 offers for work; another ~75 workers continue to wait at Ankeny & 6th
Bike Patrols are issuing the majority of citations in the neighborhood
Other discussion included continuance of street drinking in the vicinity of local package stores & the possibility of asking business to enter into “Good Neighbor” Agreements

Census 2010 (Dustin Fremont)
Jobs (8 – 10 weeks in duration) available to assist with the 2010 Census; the organizations is also in need of training space to applicant testing in Feb/Mar 2009

Lone Fir (Janet Bebb)
History of 20th & Morrison site included burial of Chinese immigrants & asylum patients; Chinese Benevolent Society kept & still has records of burials & exumations (a common practice)
Input for design of the corner was gathered from both groups
Photo montages of design for the corner were presented – the Morrison driveway would be closed (it is believed that there are remains under the driveway; main entrance will be on 26th, open dawn to dusk
Fundraising will need to occur for completion of project

Grant for Sandy Boulevard project (Adam Zucker)
There is grant money available to groups, not individuals from the Nature in the Neighborhood. Discussion of the Association applying for the grant will take place at the January 8 board meeting.

Calendars for the Willamette Light Brigade (M’Lou Christ)
Proceeds go towards lighting (with LEDS) of the Burnside Bridge

Buckman Historic Committee has been renamed the Main Street Portland Coalition to better match the city-wide mission and goals of the group

Meeting adjourned 9:00 pm

• General BCA , Second Thursday, 7pm – 9pm, Buckman Elementary Cafeteria (Note because of the New Years Holiday, January 08 meeting will be on the 15th)
• Main Street Portland Coalition, 2nd Monday, 7:30 pm, Henson Church Dinning room
• Sustainability meetings are now at SEUL
