You?’ve probably noticed that three of the streets in Buechel Terrace are out of alphabetical order. The first seven streets are in our neighborhood are named: Alpha, Bonnie, Carey, Derby, Eldorado, Flamingo, and Granvil. Then comes Redding Road, Welburn Drive, and Marian Drive.
These last three streets were developed as Frederick Acres about three or four years after the others. The name of this section came from the old Frederick Farm which had been located here years earlier.
The segment of Breckenridge Road from Bardstown Road to Six Mile Lane was the old Frederick Lane. The road ended at Six Mile Lane back then. In order to get to the Hikes Point area from here, you needed to turn right where Frederick Lane ended at Six Mile Lane and head south to Hunsinger Lane. Then, turn left.
Frederick Lane was a single lane country road and the large area between Six Mile Lane and Taylorsville Road was mostly farmland. Breckenridge Lane headed west from St. Mathews and ended at Taylorsville Road.
The old name Frederick Acres still appears from time to time. This week, we noticed that Wakefield, Reutlinger and Company Realtors has given the location of a house they are selling in this section as Frederick Acres.
