City Watch
The City Watch Information System is a new service
offered by the St. Petersburg Police Department Crime
Prevention Unit. It is a computer system that will allow
residents to call in 24 hours a day and get information and
will allow the police to dial out to residents at their home
or office. The function of City Watch is to keep residents
and business owners informed about crime in their area
and to teach the general public about crime prevention
and the community/police programs offered by the police
department. For more information or to set up a presentation
at your next neighborhood association meeting please call
Officer Chip Wells at 893-4993.

Presidents Report

Dear Neighbors,

We still have a couple of openings in the 2001 CONA Leadership Program, which will start in January. This program prepares neighborhood residents for association leadership rolls. Colleges don?’t have courses that offer the same amount of information and training that this course does. If you or someone you know is interested please contact Teresa McEachern or Linda Phillips.

The EDC (Environmental Development Commission) received a request for a 20-space grass parking lot to be built in North Kenwood Neighborhood. The North Kenwood Neighborhood Association?’s President and Executive board asked CONA Board members for help. With help from CONA members, they were able to get the applicant for a 20-space grass parking lot pulled before the hearing on November 1st. You can pat yourselves on the back for a job well done and the North Kenwood Neighborhood Association says thanks.

Grand Central Business Association held a public meeting on Thursday, November 9th at SOHO Gallery. At this meeting they asked for help to improve the appearance and commercial viability of this long neglected part of our city. There are several neighborhoods that have gotten involved, because they believe improving this Business area can only help the near by neighborhoods. Anyone interested in this cause please get involved.

A VERY IMPORTANT Public Meeting on Albert Whitten Municipal Airport is being schedule at the Bayfront center Sun Pavilion Room 2nd floor. At this meeting the plan for remodeling the present airport and adding aprons out into the bay, which are an hundred-feet long, will be discuss. Anyone who has an opinion on this plan will have his or her say. If you would like to attend this meeting give me a call. Any and all questions about the plan should be directed to Director M. O. Burgess Jr. at 727-893-7049.

It is getting closer to the end of the year, which is the time lots of our Neighborhood Associations nominate candidates and hold elections. Please get involved, because the time you volunteer may save your neighborhood. Also, I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. This is the time we all should give thanks for what has been accomplished and pray for future accomplishments. I think all of you have done a fantastic job this year, keep it up!

Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
