BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE

"St. Pete Vision 2020" is a community-driven, long range planning program to create a vision of St. Petersburg in the Year 2020. The visioning process will provide an opportunity to learn about the history and development of St. Petersburg; how the land is used; how integrating
housing, parks, traffic, business, education and cultural facilities can produce a higher quality of life for its citizens; and applying that information to create a vision of what St. Petersburg should be in the Year 2020.

Now that the series of educational forums, which examined the city's history, development patterns, environment, neighborhoods, economy, cultural assets, and transportation have been completed the Vision Committee will host a DESIGN CHARRETTE. This CHARRETTE will flesh out the VISION for the City's future. A CHARRETTE is a public workshop allowing interested parties to roll-up their sleeves and discuss issues,
brainstorm ideas, draw sketches, etc, that will become the VISION. This CHARRETTE is scheduled for the weekend June 1st, 2nd & 3RD

Presidents Report

Dear Neighbors,

Well, here we are going into the summer with a lot going on. ST. PETE VISION 2020 keeps making news and each meeting has around 275 to 300 people attending. CONA?’s Neighborhood Associations have been furnishing the refreshments and are doing a great job. If you have not attended any of these meetings, it isn't too late to get involved. ST. PETE VISION 2020 will be the BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE, so let your views be known.

On Wednesday, May 9th I am invited to take a tour of the Main Post Office. This branch has a new Plant Manager John Houle. Tom Pawlowski also will be there and I plan on talking to him about Mailboxes. There was a meeting last week between Rick Baker and representatives from the Post Office. I haven't been told what was discussed at the meeting, but a little bird told me that the Post Office hasn't given up on Curbside Boxes in some of our neighborhoods. I think one of their proposals is that each neighborhood takes a vote on whether they want Curbside delivery. So start preparing your Neighborhood Association Members about this upcoming vote. Make sure they vote NO, because they don't have to live with CURBSIDE DELIVERY IF THEY DON?’T WANT TOO. Emphasize that once they go to Curbside delivery they might never see Front Door Deliveries again.

At the May CONA Board Meeting a State Representative will give a presentation on what the Legislature passed this session. Also, on May 9th the Technical Advisory Committee is meeting for the last time on the AIRPORT. I will have the information available at the board meeting. Be prepared for a report, which proposes, extending the runways about 500 ft. See you there.

Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
