MINUTES FROM MAY 10, 2007 MEETING

PROJECTS

JUNE: POT LUCK PICNIC

Coordinators: John and Kathy Ellis

Date: June 16, 2007

Location: Cabrillo Park

Advertisement: Kathy Ellis will prepare flyers, e-mail the draft to Association members for comments, and Dave will duplicate them. Members will distribute the flyers, according to street assignments.

Menu: Potluck: favorite dish and beverages

JULY: JULY 4TH PARADE

Coordinators: Board Members

Date: July 4, 2007

Time: 11:00AM - 1:00PM

Decoration Contest: Prizes awarded at Noon

Dave will provide the ribbons for the decoration contest. Award categories will be determined by the judges.

Judges: Beth Barker-Hidalto, Elsie and Don Feliz

Location: Cabrillo Park Starting point: John Bidwell Elementary School parking lot. We will parade on the sidewalk. Ms. Charlotte Chadwick, the principal, will be contacted and informed of the Association?’s plan.

Flyers: Kathy Ellis will prepare flyers. Members will distribute according to street assignments

Menu: Ice cream and popsicles

GREEN WASTE PROGRAM (250 CONTAINERS)

-The cans will be distributed in July.

AUGUST: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT (tabled until the June meeting)

Location: Cabrillo Park

Time: 6:30PM - 8:30PM

Menu: Potluck

Snow cones: Lavonia Silva will pick up the ice for the snow cones. Ron has 100 snow cone cups.

Kennedy Jazz Band: Elsie Feliz will inquire about the availability of the band

Utensils and paper products: Ron Brasel will take an inventory of Association supplies

Tables: Beth Barker-Hidalgo will get the tables from Paratransit.

Flyers: Kathy Ellis will prepare the flyers

LIST OF NEEDED ITEMS:

Gift items for a raffle (Certificates from Staples, Home Depot, Bel Air, Wendy?’s, Starbucks, IHOP, etc)

Raffle tickets from Wishing Well

Face painting artist

Syrup for the snow cones from Smart N Final

Cooler: To keep the ice for the snow cones

Games: Water balloon toss, relays, ( Need children prizes for the winners)

City of Sacramento Corporation Yard: Someone to inquire about the tables for Cabrillo Park

NOVEMBER: ASSOCIATION POT LUCK (tabled)

APPRECIATION PROJECT: LIVING STONE CHURCH (tabled)

Ron Brasel will share our ideas with the Pastor of the church and inquire about small projects for the Association will provide a $100 contribution.

GIFTS TO SHARE PROGRAM: GRANTS FOR NEIGHBORHOODS

Coordinator: Beth Barker-Hidalgo will inquire about the quarterly grants

Applications need to be submitted by the first of March, June, September, and November.

Amount is up to $900 for community projects. Austin Aslan will be the speaker at the

July 12, 2007 meeting. He will provide information on grant writing.

SAFE HOUSES FOR KIDS (tabled)

WELCOME PACKETS FOR NEW NEIGHBORS (tabled)

Future discussions are needed to agree on the items that will be included in the packet.


COMMUNITY SIGNS: (tabled)

There was a discussion related to "Cabrillo Park" signs being placed at the entrances of the community.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIRE (tabled)

Motion by Lavonia Silva to make this our major project in 2008. Kathy Ellis seconded the motion.

ASSOCIATION NOTICES: TRANSLATED IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES

Beth had the (???) translated into Spanish. Oleg agreed to translate the notices from English to Russian.
