Recreation,Sports, Arts Programs Make Summer in Phoenix a Breeze

Jul 21, 2003

Phoenix parents anxious to plan their children?’s summer activities now have an easy way to do it. The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has posted a comprehensive guide to its summer programs on the Internet at www.phoenix.gov/parks/summer.html.

Choices range from the department?’s popular daily youth recreation program to arts classes to swim and golf lessons. There also are options for adults and teens.

Registration for most programs runs from early April through early June. With programs at nearly 100 Phoenix sites, residents likely will find what they need close to home.

The City?’s daily youth recreation programs provide a structured, supervised environment, which reinforces positive growth and development. Daily activities include sports, crafts, drama, fine arts, table/board games, reading, music and team games. There often
is an option between full-day and half-day programs. Though many sites are free of charge, some charge a small fee to cover costs such
as field trips and materials.

The department also is offering youth, teens and adults organized sports leagues and specialized classes and lessons in the arts and sports.

Residents can get limited information on summer programs by phone by calling (602) 262-6861. . . ☻
