Pride of Ownership - Getting involved

Jul 10, 2003

At the previous meetings it was mentioned that very few people attend the CVC meetings.

I?’ve talked to several people in the neighborhood and they all say that attending meetings, such as this community meeting, is the lowest priority on their list of things to do. Many are tired from working all day, and either have other things to do or they just want to relax. Though many have said that they do look forward to receiving the CVC newsletter, and enjoy reading the information about what is happening in the neighborhood.

Several homeowners associations tell me, and also one of the Arizona Republic columnists has written an article on this subject, stating that research studies in Arizona reveal that only a handful, to about 15 people, ever show up for homeowners monthly meetings. Only when there is a controversial subject that directly affects them personally do they get personally involved and attend the meetings. A local case in point is the Wal-Mart situation at 59th Ave and Olive Ave in Glendale.

There have been several incidences of dogs barking uncontrollably for hours on end. Some are barking for up to 12 hours steadily. Residents with dogs need to be reminded that this is a nuisance and Phoenix has a dog-barking Ordinance that is enforced.

It has been noted that many homes in the neighborhood do not have that ?“pride of ownership?” look, i.e.; yards, tree, shrubs etc. that are not kept up to community standards. This situation not only makes the neighborhood look bad, but also affects the resale value of our homes.

There have been several violations reported about illegal parking in the ?“No Parking Between Signs?” on Sweetwater at 43rd Ave, Sweetwater at 51st Ave. and also in front of the Sweetwater Elementary School. These no parking areas are there for a reason, traffic control, and citations will be given to violators.

These are the people who deliver your Newsletter. They give of their time to share (their) sense of community. ?“Neighbors Who Care?”

We could really use your help! In order to provide adequate coverage to neighbors who live in our neighborhood, we need volunteers to make the initial deliveries. Three areas west of 47th Ave are an immediate need. Please contact Bill Burch at 602 439-2204 or email CactusVillage@cox.net. . .☺
