We regret to report that on Tuesday, December 7, the home of Tim Kimbrell, 1541 Southern Drive, was burglarized sometime between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while the Kimbrell?’s were away. The burglars gained entrance through a basement door, opened the garage door from the inside, backed their vehicle into the garage, and loaded the vehicle with items both from the garage and from inside the house. If you remember seeing any suspicious activity at the Kimbrell home on Tuesday, please contact Tim Kimbrell at 991-2033, or, contact the Shelby County Sheriff?’s Dept. The Sheriff?’s Dept is conducting an investigation.
This type of crime highlights the importance of getting to know your neighbors, so that we can spot suspicious activity. Please feel free to call 911 and report anything that you feel is not normal for the neighborhood! A false alarm is better than failing to report activity that leads to a crime. This is particularly true during the busy holiday season, when homeowners are often out of town, and when there are plenty of gifts under the tree. Unfortunately, the holidays also bring a general increase in criminal activity.
Report strange cars in the neighborhood that appear to be circling, sitting still on the curb with the driver inside, or don?’t seem to have a reason to be here. Warn children not to approach strangers in the neighborhood.
Let your neighbors know if you will be away during the holidays. Arrange to have paper/mail delivery stopped or picked up by a neighbor. Keep a radio on inside and an inside light on a timer.
Keep an outside security light on at night or on a motion detector.
Keep bushes/hedges trimmed away from doors and windows.
Consider a security alarm for your home. Keep doors and windows locked. Keep car doors locked and valuables out of sight.
Don?’t assume that Heardmont Park is a safe place for unattended children. If you visit the park during early or late hours, don?’t let yourself become isolated from other groups of people. Carry a cell phone so that you can call 911. The Sheriff?’s station at Heardmont Park is usually not manned at night.
Finally, please make sure your house number is prominently displayed on your mailbox, curb, or front of your house, to assist emergency response vehicles in finding your home.
