One of the city’s busiest library branches, the Fern Creek expansion adds 25 percent more space to the existing library, growing from 5,600 square feet to now close to 7,000 square feet. The new space will serve as a dedicated children’s department providing additional room in the original space for other uses, including additional books for general circulation, as well as a new teen area. The library branch’s computer collection also has grown from 13 to 20 computers, including new-model children’s computers with modular benches that enable the caregiver and child to work on a computer at the same time. “Our community is just exploding with growth,” said 22nd District Councilmember Robin Engel. “It’s a great day in the Fern Creek community to see the library expand.”
