CWNA Spring Clean Up – 2009

Aug 05, 2009

May 2, 2009 dawned bright and clear ?– an ideal day for CWNA?’s Spring Clean Up. Approximately 36 members/friends of CWNA gathered at 9:00 am in the parking lot of North Shore Bank, 7924 W. Capitol Dr., to pick up their bags and gloves and get assigned to their area to clean up. These wonderful volunteers would spend the next 3 hours working to make Milwaukee?’s West Side not only more attractive but also safer.

CWNA?’s Spring Clean Up challenged volunteers from the Hawkeye Block Club (14), Lindsay Park Neighborhood Assoc. (7), Enderis East Neighborhood Assoc. (10), Association for Northwest Advancement (2), Calvary Lutheran Church (20), Covenant Lutheran Church (15), Kops Park (2), Brady Block Club (11), Felmers Chaney Correctional Center (10), Teen Challenge (30), and St. Aemilian?’s Residential Treatment Program (20) ?– for a total of 158 neighbors willing to donate time and effort to make their community better.

Many thanks to North Shore Bank for donating the hot dog lunch that CWNA served to the hungry volunteers at the Northwest Community Center at 12noon.

Under the direction of Board Member Joe Losel and his wife, Sue, our hard-working volunteers cleaned up Appleton Ave. from 92nd Street south to Capitol Dr., 76th Street from Center Street north to Hampton Ave., Capitol Dr. from 60th Street west to 92nd Street, Hampton Ave. from 78th Street to 76th Street and Lisbon Ave. from 63rd Street to Burleigh ?– a significant area made healthier, cleaner, and more beautiful.

As CWNA did last year, it invited the students from the area?’s private and public schools to participate in it?’s Spring Clean Up for Schools Project which encourages students to spend part of their school day between April 27 and May 1, to work to clean up the school grounds and surrounding area. CWNA believes that it is important for children to learn that litter is unpleasant and unattractive in hopes that they would be encouraged to pick up after themselves. This year CWNA had student volunteers from the following schools: Samuel Morse Middle School, Emerson Elementary School, Northwest Lutheran, German Immersion School, Milwaukee School of Languages, Mother of Good Counsel School, Milwaukee School of Entrepreneurship, Craig Montessori, Capitol West Academy, Blessed Savior School, Faith Lutheran School, and Sixty-Fifth School.

CWNA would like to thank all the volunteers for their involvement in the 2009 Spring Clean Up. Together we achieved a significant impact on our community. Hope that the word spreads and we inspire more neighbors to participate in the 2010 CWNA Spring Clean Up
