Adopt A Curbside

Posted in: Casa Mia
I have decided to start my own ADOPT A CURBSIDE. The corner of S 80th Place and Jerome directly in front of my home needs some tlc. I will be contacting the owner to see if he will allow me to freshen it up with some small plants and I will maintain it, since he does not. It not only helps him, and our neighborhood in our quest for beauty... but I will enjoy looking at it as well. I will be passing out flyers to some folks in the neighborhood, looking for donations from your overgrown agave, lantana, cactus, bushes and ornamental grasses. If anyone has extras growing and would like to give them to me I will use them to plant in bare spots around the neighborhood, including my first curbside. Also, if anyone else would adopt a curbside, please let me know. I'll even assist.
Another Curbside Getting Done

I would just like to thank Brianna of 8029 E Idaho, who will be working with her kids on the curbside on the corner of Idaho and S 80th. She will be landscaping this corner, in an effort to further the beutification of our neighborhood. Yeah! She asked if we should maybe have a small list of ten plants that we use consistently in our landscaping, so as not to make the neighborhood look so mismatched. I think that would be a good idea, but I do not want to set guidelines that seem to police what people do. I would suggest low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plants that require very little water once established. Water each new plant every day for the first two weeks and then wein down to once very 4-6 days. Lantana, cactus, agave, bouganvilla, ornamental grasses like fountain or zebra grass work well too. Any ideas? let us know.
