This link will take you to the Arizona Legislature site with the Law regarding HOA's and their power to lien your property.  Please read this ENTIRE law before you post an angry comment on this site about how the HOA is doing nothing about the weeds and run-down homes in the neighborhood.  This will open your eyes.

Just an FYI, the HOA is sending fines to these people/banks, most aren’t paying the fines for one reason or another.  And a reminder, you pay an HOA to keep up the common areas, if you lived in the City, you would pay city tax.  We don't have the luxury of having the city or county come in and cut our grass, cut our bushes and trim our trees.  The county does not pay for our water.  The county does not pay for our electricity or to fix our broken streetlights that our nice little kids break.  The county doesn't pay to replace gravel that is washed away.  So, I guess what I'm saying is, the HOA takes care of the community, not individual homes.  We, as a community, need to help each other out; it is not the HOA's responsibility.  The HOA is not a police force, they cannot arrest you when you fail to pay your fines, all they can do is add to them.

The HOA is not going to pay a gardener to clean up all these vacant properties once a month, and that is what it would take to keep it up.  The HOA is going to continue to fine these "accounts" and will continue to pay for community improvements and common area keep up.  No, the HOA is not broke, but it would be if it had to pay to clean everyone’s yard every month.

Hopefully this clears some things up.

WOW!  #1 chill.  I think everyone understands what are dues pay for! Remember this is a fourm. Things get talked about good and bad. You know what they say about opinions. Also remember freedom of speech!!!!!  The HOA does a good job. Again kudos to the folks that did pull weeds!!!!

Really I can see where he's coming from, he's ON the board, started this site and yet all people do is complain about the HOA not doing anything and the board not doing anything and the HOA not getting rid of weeds and not doing this and not doing that and blah blah blah and complaining about dues going up (which hasn't happened) because of foreclosures and complaining about "then what are our funds going for" (so apparently not everyone knows what the funds go for) and complaining that the HOA spent money on sunshades for the playgrounds but won't pay to have the gardeners to pull weeds on foreclosed homes.  The parks are community property to be kept up by the HOA so they spent money to improve the playgrounds for the kids to play in the summer under some shade, personally I'd rather them spend money on something that benefits everyone and is useful than to spend that money to pull weeds in someone's yard where the house is foreclosed or owned by an investor and the owner doesn't give a rip.  I like the trash cans that are near the sidewalk and the "don't litter" signs as well as the animal waste bags and dispencers that were put near the parks as well, it's very nice and makes the parks look nicer IMO, that's what funds SHOULD be going for, improving the community so that we all benefit from having newer, nicer, and additional things put in rather than cleaning up someone else's mess who should be cleaning it themselves.  I pay my dues, I don't want to pay dues to have someone else's yard clean, I have no problem paying dues so my son can play in a shaded park and I can throw my trash away while taking a walk or whatever.

Obviously you have never been to an HOA meeting as I honestly stopped going because the ONLY thing people talked about were weeds this and weeds that and why wasn't the HOA doing anything about the weeds and why wouldn't they pay the gardeners to pull the weeds and why wouldn't they send letters to the home owners to pull the weeds and if they were sending letters then why wasn't anything being done and the board is useless and they sit on their a$$es all day and do nothing and the HOA is useless and we pay dues for nothing and if they aren't going to uphold the rules then what are the dues for anyway and good grief need I go on???  It's human nature to complain but for goodness sake!  Then the HOA DOES go and rent the dumpsters (a whole lot of money I'm sure)  for residence that if they would like to pull weeds in vacant homes they can and then people complain that the HOA didn't get word out enough and board members didn't participate and blah blah blah.  Good grief is nothing ever good enough???  I'm not on the board and I feel sorry for these poor people because all anyone else is BELITTLE them when they don't get paid they take time out of their lives to try and help the community and all anyone does is b!tch about them and everything else!  When my seat was up for re-election I'd tell you all to go take your comments and put them where the sun don't shine and I'm done, but no they stick it out and take everyone's complaining and try to do nicer things for the community like put in sunshades and what do people do??  Yep you guessed it COMPLAIN.  The board did not come up with the idea of pulling weeds ourselves I don't believe, if they "get word out" by sending out fliers it costs MONEY to print and mail that kind of stuff, what was stopping anyone on this forum from printing up fliers themselves and taping them to mailboxes?

9 times out of 10 all I ever see coming here is people complaining and wondering where funds go and wanting to know why the board doesn't do anything about weeds.  WEEDS WEEDS WEEDS I'm SO sick of hearing about weeds.  It's Arizona, we get weeds, fact of life, probably half the homes in Castlegate are foreclosed or investor owned FACT and that won't be changing anytime soon, so where it's a crummy answer, why can't people just live with it?  Pick the weeds and put them in your own garbage can or thank the HOA for renting the dumpsters regardless of how much communication was given and get on with life.  Are weeds really the end of the world?  I'm sure people in places like Iraq, Africa, and other not so nicely built up countries wish the only thing they had to complain about were weeds.

Kudos to you guys for picking the weeds, I wholeheartedly commend you (and I truly mean that), but for goodness sake, why doesn't someone decide to THANK the board and the HOA instead of ripping them a new one every other post on every other topic??  I didn't see any of YOU running for the empty seat they had available not too long ago so obviously it isn't that huge of an issue.

GET OVER THE WEEDS AND ENJOY THE SUMMER.

You obviously don't have a clue who posts here. I agree with your post. But I did run on the last ballot and lost by 10 or so votes. People do complain a lot on this site. I know most of the board myself and I do THANK them. They have one of the most thankless volunteer jobs there is. (In my opinion)

The weed round up was discussed at the last meeting and brought to the forefront by the block watch in an email. I posted it on this forum to drum up support. Emails were sent to the entire board and no replies. I know one replied a couple of times here on this forum, but the only support was the dumpsters. If you read my past posts on another thread, I thanked them for it!!! They have the resources and the addresses of ALL the residents. Isn't that what we pay our management company to do? Support us?? There is a concept! They can send out a card and half the community will say, "I never received that notice!" No lie!! How many times have yu heard that one?

Look, I am not trying to get into a posting war here. We share the same view points. I want to be involved in my community. That is why I was passionate about doing the round up. Community involvement. Helping control the probelm. Keep bugs and rodents away from accupied homes. All the people that complain, never come up with a solution and never volunteer to help either!! So what are the rest of us to do? Sit back and let our neighborhood go to SH!#? I think not!

Come back to the board meetings. Voice your opinion. Come up with a better solution to the problems. Don't ignore them. Our community will be better because of it!!!
