2nd Annual Green Up 59th Street!
4/14/2012 - 4/14/2012 Our project will be at 15 N. 59th street at The Warehouse. Our primary focus will be cleaning up the lot behind the warehouse, however, we will also be taking care of the lot across the street and next to our project. We plan on using this site as an extension of the 59th Street Community Garden. This lot, currently strewn with trash, overgrown weeds and trees, will become a flourishing haven where fresh, healthy, produce will grow. A place where the community can participate and take charge in the combat against hunger and food insecurity by keeping lots clean! This site will contain hoop houses that will expand our growing season into extra months. Supplemental to this, we will be transplanting seeds and starter plants into our raised bed garden. We have the support of local churches and community groups for this project. |

United Block Captains AssociationCleanup
4/14/2012 - 4/14/2012 Our cleanup will take place between 39th Street & Pennsgrove Street to 40th and Pennsgrove. This block has only a couple of vacant spaces between the row homes, one of which we converted into a community garden. On the side closest to 40th Street there is a large lot of open space that our Block Captains Association has maintained over the years. When we clean we will have participants clean the street and sidewalk, the large lot, and the community garden space. At this time we are hoping to partner with Ready, Willing, and Able volunteers in addition to our block captains, junior block captains, and other community residents. |

Barkan Park Spring Clean-Up Barkan Park - SE corner of 50th and Spruce Streets SE corner of 50th and Spruce Streets
4/14/2012 - 4/14/2012 The project is to conduct a spring clean up of Barkan Park at 50th and Spruce Streets. The park is in pretty good shape but can use raking and trash pick up and some pruning and cleaning off of garden planting areas, as well as mulching. --The Friends of Barkan Park, the GCCA Greening Committee, as well as nearby neighbors support and come out and volunteer to help on projects such as this. There is no funding being sought, just volunteer support and effort. |

Keep Royal Gardens Beautiful
4/14/2012 - 4/14/2012 Keep Royal Gardens Beautiful has adopted Morris Park and the perimeter of the Cobbscreek Golf Course and the Rose Recreation Center where the sight of these attractive landmarks in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia was blighted by an overgrowth of invasive planting materials and tons of illegal dumping. After clearing all debris and creating a native planting plan for these areas, both sites have become more visible to the public and now the Rose Recreation Center has reopened to community members. |
