Johnnie earned a Masters Degree in Social Work and completed graduate courses in Public Relations. In 1973, Johnnie opened Pumpkin’s Palace Day Care Center on E. Grand Blvd., but after the economic down-turns of the eighty’s Johnnie closed Pumpkin’s Palace.

Undeterred, she then opened Growth Potential Public Relations, where she was joined by her husband Bill G. Hunter, former Community Affairs Manager of General Motors Corp. For 16 years the two have successfully provided services to clients in the automotive industry, Michigan Lottery, Kentucky Fried Chicken and others.

Johnnie is also President of the Detroit Public Library Board of Commissioners, and is a board member of Adopt-A-Child, Children’s Aid Society, and Plowshares Theatre Co.

She is also a member of Tau Alpha Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Sorority, and Greater Wayne County Chapter of LInks, Inc.
