Toll Gate Park:
Construction to renovate Toll Gate Park playground is on-going with completion scheduled for this summer. The playground renovation design includes new updated playground equipment for children 2 to 5 years old and 5 to12 years old; new playground safety surfacing and related items like concrete paving, tree and shrub planting, as well as turf grass and irrigation restoration.
Alameda Buckley Self Storage is the project directly behind the Central Post Office. Phase I is nearing completion. I spoke with the foreman of the construction crew and he said they expect to be open for business by the end of June 2005.
The Parkview Townhomes project will have 94 units and is directly to the north of CentrePointe Park (also known as ?“Gecko Park?”) to the west of the Columbia Creek wetlands. The first building is complete and construction is continuing on remaining units.
Raytheon Campus Building #3 is the project on the SW corner of Airport Blvd. & Hughes Dr. Concrete has been poured & construction is underway. The paved trail that will go along behind the completed building is in place. This will eventually connect with the Highline Canal Trail. Estimated building completion is August-September 2005.
Buckley AFB Housing Project: This project is to provide housing for military personnel stationed at Buckley AFB, and is located east of Airport Blvd. & north of Tollgate Creek. It will consist of 110 duplex units, plus 39 single family units, clubhouse & pool. Groundbreaking is underway.
Aurora Minor League Ballpark: This is a project to construct a baseball complex at the NE corner of E. Alameda Parkway and Quintero Way. There are still several site plan issues that need to be resolved. Several waivers from building code requirements have been requested. Tentatively scheduled to be heard before the Planning Commission July 13th, 2005, but I am told by the City that date will probably slip due to the unresolved issues mentioned above. The current project site is in the floodplain, which is another concern to be addressed.
Another issue that is of concern is that the land where this proposed project is to be located was purchased with voter-approved bonds earmarked for open space. Some feel it is an inappropriate use of open space land and will interfere with plans to construct Signature Park.
