After leaving the HOA meeting this evening (3/28/07) I considered the following to be important and relevant:
1) We need to be organized.
2) We need a small committee to lead this venture.
3) We need a contact on the Gila River reservation. The Sr. Coucilman for district #5 is Gordon Santos Sr. Although I do not have any contact information.
4) I have done a little investigating and Gila River has no obligation to inform or accommodate the citizens of Chandler, Maricopa County or the State regarding its plans.
5) Our best hope is to find out what they are planning and ask if they are willing to address our concerns.
6) The concerns I heard: increased traffic along Hunt Hwy and Gilbert Rd; the view overlooking the casino from our community; the noise and lighting impact. There are probably more but I think these were the ones repeated.
7)Another concern was the approach we should use in trying to get the Indian community to hear us out. Should a large group or a small group approach the Indian community? A small group back by a petition signed by the members of the community seems reasonable. When there are too many voices the message becomes garbled or lost.
I hope that others will visit this site and provide their input regarding this situation as well.
