Marie Evans, Turtle Rock, submitted the following article for us, as the speed cameras got the green light from lawmakers.
Police say only the busiest roads with the most crashes will see speed cameras. Signs similar to those warning drivers of red light cameras will be posted, and an officer will be required to monitor the speeding camera whenever it is being used. The fine for speeding will be $50. The ticket will arrive in the mail, but will not count against insurance.
The speed cameras will be mounted inside patrol cars, but can only be used in certain places including:
. South Boulevard between I-485 and Scaleybark
. Independence between Briarcreek & Sardis Rd. N.
. East W.T. Harris between The Plaza & Idlewild
. Tryon Street from 36th to Orr Road
. Tryon St. from Mallard Creek Church Rd. & University City Boulevard
. Eastway between Independence & Sugar Creek
. West W.T. Harris between N. Tryon St. & Technology Dr.
. Albemarle Rd. between Independence & Lawyers
. Central between Albemarle and Briar Creek
. Monroe Rd. between Sardis Road N. & Wendover
. Providence between McKee & Provid.Country Club
. Highway 51 between Park Road & Alexander Rd.
. Sharon Amity between Lyttleton Dr. & East W.T. Harris
. Billy Graham Parkway between I-85 & Woodlawn
