MONA UPDATE-- This is a a periodic update for those on the Merry Oaks Neighborhood Association email list.
ABSENTEE LANDLORD EFFORT
I am trying to find out what house rents are in this neighborhood in order to convince certain absentee property owners to fix up their properties as they become vacant. Please tell me of any rents that you know about. It is important to provide the following information:
The rent amount
Either the address OR
Square footage, # bedrooms, # bathrooms.
If you know it's a special case (such as you have been there forever and the owner likes you and never raises the rent), let me know that.
It is OK if this is anonymous (you don't have to ID the address or renter) but I would like to get at least 10 examples of nice homes and how much they rent for.
Email reply with this information right away.
PARK MEETING
Five MONA Neighbors attended the Park District 2 meeting early this week and voted to prioritize our projects, Briar Creek Greenway and Merry Oaks Campus Park, for additions in the next 10 year Capital Needs Assessment. We also heard reports that Merry Oaks School Park is ready to move ahead with design as soon as they get a go-ahead from CMS. We are also very close to having a community comment meeting on the design (design is more than 50% complete) for Briar Creek Greenway.
TREE BANDING - hurry!
If anyone tried to band their own trees against the cankerworms with the information provided in the last newsletter, have you gotten the goo out of your clothes yet? Several of us on Flynnwood and Merry Oaks Road hired Tree Banding Services. Their prices are very reasonable. They will come out to do one or a bunch of trees. Call them at 704 632 7707 or check out their web site at www.treebandingservices.com. You have about a week left before the worms come out, so hurry!
LANDSCAPING
The City will be putting in trees along several streets and landscaping the traffic circle, including a tree in the center. This should occur in the next month or two.
LIGHTS
If you live on Flynnwood or Merry Oaks I will be coming around to get your signature on a sheet to say you have been informed about the change of light fixtures to a safer, more attractive kind. If you can help me get the signatures PLEASE let me know, I have had the forms for a month and haven't found any time to do it yet. Duke Energy will then proceed to the rest of the neighborhood for new lights.
