  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor
We live on Sulkirk near Sharon; have for over 18 years. About 2 years ago, I installed a planter box in the important ''planting strip'' between the sidewalk and curb. I just returned from vacation, and had a business card from a city zoning official in my front door. I will phone him tomorrow, but am anticipating that he perceives the planter box as some sort of violation. It's funny to me in that virtually NONE of the planting strips on Sulkirk have ANY sort of planting in them (planting strips are designed to buffer pedestrians from auto traffic). Many developers planted trees (often willow oaks) in some of Charlotte's oldest and classiest neighborhoods, but not B.W. In fact, Sulkirk planting strips sometimes are used for auto parking and are not planted.

My box is just 12'' high and 4' x 16'; it's made of 6''x6'''s. Most would consider it a neighborhood asset. It even has solar lighting. I'm not sure if the zoning guy is concerned about cars or pedestrians. As a former (1990) officer in the BWCA, I'd welcome any support from the Association. Thanks.
Land Use Issue

I guess this is not a very ''active'' discussion board.

DEAD BWCA Message Board

I'd say, after a full week of being posted, that this board is indeed DEAD.
