Barking Dogs:

Similar to last year, there are Charterwood Homeowner concerns about the excessive barking of neighboring dogs that have been left outside for extended periods of time; some over night and during day(s) while the owners are not at home. These dogs are usually bored, lonely, scared or having separation anxiety and hence, continue barking. The Charterwood Newsletter of August 2004 details the reporting process to be taken in this regard via contacting the Lakewood Police Department at its non-emergency number (303)987-7111 to notify an Animal Control Officer. The process can possibly lead to a court appearance by the involved parties. As previously noted, some steps dog owners can take to preclude the barking problems include:

- Not leaving a dog outside when you?’re not at home. Dogs can behave quite differently when their owners are not around.
- Bring your dog inside at night. Dogs barking in the middle of the night can create more of a disturbance than even the daytime barking concerns.
- Stay aware of what your dog is doing and showing consideration for their neighbors.
