As a reminder, consistency of the architectural character within the community remains desirable. An aspect of achieving this is through harmonious and compatible paint colors. Recommendations in this regard are as follows:
- White/Navajo White* trim (recognizing that all whites are not identical, some shade deviations may occur). *Original trim color in Charterwood, though, recommend now more of a white. No other colors for trim.
- A single color for the body of the house
(compatible with neighbors).
- Garage door same color as body of the house.
- Front door any color that is compatible with
house color.
- White ?“picket?” fences.
If you plan to change the paint colors, even slightly, you will need to submit a Design Review Request form with samples of the colors you have selected, clearly marked as Trim or Base. Please plan ahead since the Architectural Control Committee has up to 30 days to make a decision. An early approval will give you flexibility in scheduling the work.
Based on some recent problems encountered during the current home painting season, the following is some related information that might make the Architectural Control Committee review process of paint color change requests go easier:
When requesting a change to the single main color of a house, one that is still harmonious and compatible, a sample of the new color must be put on the house for ACC review?…at least 2 feet by 2 feet in size, however, larger is better. The white trim requirement remains unchanged.
Using a small sample swatch from a paint store to present the change has been found not to work. A related problem is choosing a color based on a sample swatch from one paint manufacturer and then taking it to another for matching. This approach doesn?’t work very well. Manufacturers?’ mix bases are different plus striving for the same color via computer matching isn?’t always that accurate. A frequent result is a different hue of the color. The aforementioned sample on the home for review requirement helps to overcome this problem?…both for the homeowner and the ACC.
When a Painter has been selected, there is sometimes a tendency by them to want to start the next day. Please remember that it takes a while for the Design Review Request form to be processed through the system. The ACC is endeavoring to process the DRR?’s in a timely manner; even though the covenants provides for up to 30 days for their approval/ disapproval.
One last item regarding the DRR, if for some reason there is a desire to have the metal roof fixtures and flashing painted the same as the changed main color, when it is one that does not blend them in with the roof, that also needs to be included in the request.
