The neighborhood survey conducted this spring revealed both strengths and interests of Chautauqua Park residents and identified needs and expectations of neighbors. According to tabulations provided by the Polk County scholars from the Community Health Leadership Institute, four major areas of interest were evident. The four areas are as follows:
1. Providing play areas and equipment for children in the neighborhood;
2. Beautifying the neighborhood by enhancing the gazebo area with additional landscaping or benches, cleanup around the 13th Street entrance, sharing interests in gardening;
3. Compiling a history of the neighborhood including development of the area, original residents, and types of homes;
4. Addressing safety concerns and annoyances such as traffic, barking dogs, and trash.
The board intends to work with neighbors to develop solutions to concerns raised in the surveys.
The board will also select future projects and initiatives with the goals and interests of neighbors in mind. Funds received in the Community Betterment Grant (discussed in the following article) could provide the means for meeting several goals set by the neighborhood association based on the outcome of the survey.
