Special meeting ?– Monday, August 6, 7 p.m. to discuss use of Community Betterment Grant funds. See article on page 1 for details.

Ice Cream Social to be held in conjunction with National Night Out ?– Tuesday, August 7 (time??). Meet at the gazebo for ice cream and socializing.

Neighborhood Social Event ?– Friday, August 17, 7 p.m. at the Clarks?’, 2001 Chautauqua Parkway. Please bring your favorite finger food and some raccoon repellant. (Just kidding about the repellant?…we?’ll explain!) Anyone interested in hosting a future social event, please call Russ Poggemann at 283-8626.

General meeting ?– Monday, September 17, 7 p.m. Mayor Daniels is invited to talk about his consolidated city/county government plan.

Elections ?– CPNA?’s annual elections meeting will be held Monday, November 12, 2001, at 7 p.m. at Casady School. Please note that the date has been changed from that indicated on the calendar of events distributed earlier this year. Several board positions will be available, and new faces and new ideas are always welcome! Following are brief descriptions of officer and committee positions:
President: Supervise and control business of association; preside at all general and board meetings.

Vice President: Serves in president?’s absence; assist in various capacities.

Treasurer: responsible for all funds of association; receive and give receipts for all moneys due and payable; furnish board with regular reports.

Secretary: take and keep minutes of meetings; maintain association records.

Endowment: Seek sources of funds available through grants, donations, corporate sponsorships; write grant proposals; coordinate fundraising activities.

Housing: Liaison to realtors; serve as resource for prospective buyers; welcome new neighbors.
Membership: Maintain information on residents and members of association; develop plan to increase membership.

Physical Environment: Coordinate clean up and beautification efforts in neighborhood; interface with local government for capital improvements.

Public Relations: Promote neighborhood events; maintain website; assist other committees in disseminating information to neighbors and the city.

Security: Monitor public safety issues in the neighborhood; serve as liaison with Des Moines Police Department; coordinate neighborhood watch.

Special Events: Orchestrate annual special events such as ice cream socials, holiday activities, home tours.
