Circle C is a family oriented community with an emphasis on quality of life. Those of us in Circle C place a high priority on our trees.

Most of us welcome an HEB here in Circle C. This petition is to request that City of Austin zoning add this Tree Preservation consideration to the zoning of 103. HEB's past tree preservation, such as HEB Brodie Lane, is unacceptable. With better planning, the parking lot could be filled with more mature, preserved trees. The perimeters on Brodie and William Cannon were cleared of almost all mature trees. The young trees HEB planted on the perimeter roads still stand, but half of them have been dead for the past 2 years. The trees are without mulch, with young roots exposed.

Our research on this subject shows, the only way to ensure that the neighborhood, and it's trees are represented, is to have, from site preparation on, all environmental designs approved by a Registered Consulting Arborist.

There is neither a higher authority nor a more objective voice in the arboricultural profession than a Registered Consulting Arborist (RCA) on matters involving the environmental and aesthetic considerations of trees and plants. By adding a RCA to the HEB/Stratus development team you gain a huge public relations advantage. The RCA will facilitate relationships with development authorities and effortlessly work within city codes/city permits on this environmentally sensitive tract.

The cost of this commitment is insignificant, but the additional beauty of the preserved mature trees is priceless. Imagine how fantastic Escarpment Village will look. Why wait 25 years to have an beautiful Tree filled shopping environment, such as The Arboretum, when we can have it right away?

Unnecessary to waste time with a petition. I have seen the developers in Circle C do everything possible to conserve the maximum number of trees, including some elaborate preservation schemes. CC will not be a repeat of Brodie. I agree about using an arborist.

Why not just bring it up at the Jan 7th meeting. Are you going to be there?

SS,

Your faith in HEB aside. Stratus will be doing the developing. My research has shown the ONLY way to ensure the most mature trees will be saved is to involve a CRA, from the beginning of the project.

NOTE: a CRA is much more than an arborist. Please read my complete post that I had CCHOA news@aol.com send out.

The petition is far from a waste of time. I agree, it would have better for our community to have met monthly with Stratus, starting a year ago as Villages of Western Oaks did. They put together 29 points that they negotiated with Stratus. We have a developer friendly BOD that has chosen to squander that past year, and not have our residents meet with the folks that are going to BUILD IN Circle C!

FYI: The current CCHOA developer guidelines put together by the developer (Bartlett/Hoover) are like a weak cup of coffee.

I'll be there.

You have nothing to loose if you sign.
