A VERY REAL PROBLEM

Can we discuss a real problem in our community? A problem that affects each and every one of you? This problem is the shoddy, careless, tardy garbage company that now services Circle C.

I wonder if any of you feel as I do that our streets are beginning to look like the South Bronx on garbage day. If you walk up Needham Lane on Monday afternoon, there are garbage scraps all over the road. It's strewn with litter and paper. I've seen the trucks go through here and they toss the cans around like they were styrafoam. Half the time my cart is lying on its side when I get home.

Also, and this is not an exaggeration, 50% of the time, the recycling truck never even makes it to my house.

Our current garbage company is Action Disposal, an affiliate of BFI. Our previous garbage companywas Longhorn Disposal, an affiliate of Waste Management, who provided exemplary service. I wonder why we switched. I think it must have been some deal with the city after we were annexed.

How about the new board taking up this issue? I think that exerting some pressure on our current garbage service to ''clean'' up their act should be a priority.

How to solve this problem

Just call 247-5647 and make a complaint with the Customer Service. Be more specific and give the day of the service and the name of the street which was littered with the mess. Action Disposal will find out which employee should be held responsible and needs more training

Be Fair to the New or Old Board

I don?’t think we, homeowners, should expect the Directors of the Board would handle this kind of trivial matters. Otherwise, no one would ever want to serve on the Board any more. It is more appropriate to complain with Denise Nortstrom. However, since Denise is not so efficient, I would rather contact Action Disposal directly. I believe I can get the better result by making one, single phone call directly to Action Disposal than calling Denise hundred times or more, so why bother.

It's a 5 Year Contract.

I've heard complaints from many residents about the trash service.

Steve Sackmary worked with the developer freindly board, and headed the committee that recommended that provider.

This is what is found in last years annual report:

''During the entire year, a homeowner committee lead by resident Steve Sackmary researched garbage and recycling options, communicated with the City of Austin, toured all of the major landfills and waste facilities in Austin, and became
thoroughly familiar with the entire garbage situation in and around Central Texas. In August formal bid proposals were sent to Waste Management, BFI, and Texas Disposal.
After several rounds of negotiations, BFI offered a very good price to the Association and the decision was made to sign a five year contract with them for garbage and recycling services.''
