Spring Meeting Minutes, Continued - Archived

Meeting Frequency

Lyle & I are trying to respond to requests to have meetings less often, and rotating the nights in which to have the meeting. Meetings will now be held only 4 times/year. In addition, there will be 2 Clean Up Our Neighborhood days.

Please make attending these few meetings a priority in your schedule.

We also need volunteers to host the meetings in homes. Typically when people read my beseeching
requests to be a meeting host, the first thought is "My home is too small/I don't have room."
What is forgotten is that no matter how many emails/flyers/personal requests go out for meeting attendance, in the end only 10-12 people attend the meeting. Is there a home that *really*
cannot accommodate 10-12 people? If for some reason there were actually more than 12 people
in attendance, could they not stand?

Crime Stats

We passed out the Crime Stats for the past 3 months. In our part of our neighborhood, the crime stats are pretty good - December had no crime at all even. January and February had 3 incidents reported. If you take a look at Victorian Village as a whole, the crimes reported are quite high.

Some may read this and say, "Why have a Block Watch meeting if our crime stats are so low?"

As Lyle eloquently phrased it, with our low crime stats, we may becoming victims of our own
sucess. -- With low crime stats it is still important to have meetings - it helps to maintain low levels of crime, provides opportunities to meet new people who move into our neighborhood,
discuss about problems neighbors may be having, and to learn about that is going on with crime
and other issues.
