Critter Report July 07

Critters

I live in the orange zone as well; I think the rats in our area are coming from Willow Park where there seems to be an regular supply of food (given the amount of food wrappers, etc. that blow across Willow Road onto my street)in the ballfield area.
rats in the gutters

I totally agree. Willow Park draws people each day and they litter. From reading the postings I bet the rats are using the gutters to come into our area and start breeding. Most of us have pets and someone noted the rats will eat pet poop. If you dont let them have access to any food or cover they wont hang around. Please post a notice if you are in an area that has rats to help the neighbors fix the problem.

Hawks

Actually, I think the city released some hawks in town for that purpose.

Peregrine Falcons

the city of Memphis released a flock or two of peregrine falcons in the downtown area about ten years ago, to help control the pigeon population -
it was about five or so years ago when i spotted some in the university of memphis area, and there may be a few in colonial acres -
however i think most of the things i've seen around here have been red-tailed hawks
