> "We are profoundly disappointed that the Senate cut all funds for sorely needed prevention and wellness jobs and programs from its stimulus bill. In doing so, the senators failed to recognize that our communities and nation communities need a vital public health safety net more than ever during economic distress. Each public health job lost weakens the safety net.

> Additionally, preventing illness and promoting wellness strengthens the productivity of the American workforce, while reducing health care costs for employers.

> This prevention and wellness programs in the House stimulus bill would create and protect jobs in every state and community. The prevention stimulus also would enable communities to implement policies to support healthy environments where people work, live, learn and play. This funding builds on America's substantial investment into prevention research, by working with communities to implement proven prevention strategies - converting our investment in research into proven policies and programs that work for Americans.
