What was on High Street hill in 1968?

Dear Arthur and friends,

 

What buildings were demolished in 1968 on Main and High Streets at the site which is now the Visitors Center?  Why was half the hill removed?

I believe that was the Music Hall theatre but am sure someone will have the answers?

I think they were mill buildings and a 4 family house...

I remember an Adams Drug Store and above the drug store was the Acorn Book Shop.
