Presidents Letter

Mar 05, 1999

HI!
This is the time of the year that our thoughts turn to our immediate and extended families as we prepare for happy times together. This season reminds us all of our roots and is a time for coming together. Please enjoy the season in whatever manner you celebrate it. We on the Board wish you the best!
Jenene Cook advises the Holiday Lighting Contest is on track. You have a bit of time to get ready for this fun event. I am always amazed and impressed with the creativity and effort put forth by the neighborhood. I haven?’t seen anything that would cause Public Service to melt down, but they should be a presenting sponsor given the additional revenue they accrue. The judging will be done on the December 17, so be sure you are brightly represented. Prizes will be presented as the judging occurs during that evening. Obviously that night would be a good time for all the neighbors to be out and about ogling the sites too.
As I reminded you last month it is the time of year when we ask you to pay your dues for the association. Our dues, when compared to what others have to pay, is an outstanding value. The fact that dues are not mandatory makes it even more important that we all contibute. The large percentage of dues paying homes is what gives the association a greater amount of creditability in our dealings with other entities such as the county and developers.
Charlotte Bagwell, who does such a great job shepherding our blockworker program, is putting together a list of your comments from the dues renewal sheets. These are very helpful to the Board as they give us a flavor of your thoughts. Interestingly, they also remind us of issues handled in the past, but not current knowledge for newer neighbors in our area. As we get these comments, I will try to address some concerns in this space. One that we get almost each year is about Upham St. where it is closed at Clifton. That stretch of the street was vacated by the county many years ago and is not available to be reopened. It was vacated for the purpose of eliminating a large flow of cut through traffic from Chatfield to Pierce. It has accomplished that. A part of that agreement was that if Kaiser ever built on their property, no commercial entrance could be built on the stretch from Clifton to Phillips. This is also why we have been so concerned with other proposals from the county on the King Soopers/Kaiser development. As you know, there is still more to the story to be played out.
The King Soopers development is on the move again and we continue to monitor the situation closely. The site plan has been sent out from the county and as I write this we, as a Board along with the committee, are reviewing it so we may comment to the county. If anything of a surprise nature appears, the information will be posted at the web site. We are still working on what to do about Upham St. as we continue to get mixed signals from the county about its future. We have been contacting our neighbors in Chatfield Estates about their desires, as we want to continue to restrict traffic increases into the area.
The board meets each second Thursday year round and welcomes your participation (we will meet the second Wednesday in February, one time only, instead of Thursday). We are always willing to hear your thoughts about what we are working on or what concerns you if it is not a current agenda item. We meet in the Saint Frances Cabrini Church at 7:00 p.m. S. Pierce at Chatfield. Please attend, as all are welcome.
Remember, we post timely information at our web site which is available for your perusal at any time. You can go directly to the site http//www.ecentral.com, then click on Neighborhood Links and type in our Zip Code, 80128, which will take you directly to our information. This address is most important this time of year as we do not have a January issue of The Scroll and any new late breaking information will be posted at the site for your edification. You may also contact me by fax or e-mail at cdunias at ecentral.com. Be sure to read the other reports and the minutes for more details.
