Norco Environmental Activist, Margie Eugene Richard, is the 2004 North American recipient of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Award. Margie is one of only seven world-wide to receive the award this year. She is also the only recipient from North American and the first African American to recieve this award.
She will be honored at a reception at Xavier University of Louisiana on June 11, 2004. The reception is hosted by the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice (DSCEJ) at Xavier University of Louisiana. The DSCEJ, along with other environmental organizations, environmental professionals and environmental activists, worked untiringly with the NORCO Old Diamond Community in their 12 year struggle for voluntary relocation.
