Coquina Key Property Owners Association

Why make our dogs suffer not having a legal place to play when their responsible owners are there with them. I proudly told many friends that Coquina Key was going to be the shining example of a park that was dog friendly. Such parks are a huge success in many other areas (Sarasota, locally) and in many, many other parts of the country.
I am proud to be a resident of Coquina Key and I am sure I shall now be a more active member in the neighborhoods events.
Dog parks are a good thing, responsible pet owners have a place to allow their pets to socialize, they clean up after their pets, and meet other, like-minded responsible people.
My lab, Sheba, has a history with Coquina Key Park for 8 years. She has been allowed to run beside me, and have a good time, (albet against city regulations} all that time.
When the city tries to establish a legal area for pet-owners to exercise their pets, one or two individuals are able to stop that......WHY
I will be at the meeting next Tues, and I am writing my check to join the association now.
Get involved, pet owners are good, responsible people...we are good for the community
Wouldn't you like to take your guests to see Coquina Key Park and see a controlled dog park, clean, friendly, and inviting rather than the used condoms, concom wrappers, drug baggies and the unused tobacco remants of ''blunts''?

Dog Park Status

According to Lee Metzger, several residents approached Council Member Earnest Williams with their concerns about the park. Williams visited the site with Metzger and reviewed the history of the proposal. Williams asked Metzger to confer with the City's Legal Department to assure that current City ordinance would allow a Dog Park in the City.The City Attorney suggested the exisiting ordinancy be ammended to specifically address dog parks and to assure that there is no misunderstanding.

The revision is scheduled for a first reading at City Council on 2/1/2001. If approved there will be a public hearing on 2/15/01.

Nothing is easy in Government especially when there is opposition.
