With all the recent hype concerning the impending energy crisis, questions have been asked regarding what is this Association going to do to conserve energy? The answer is that there is not too much we can do about supply but this Association has taken steps in the past to reduce our consumption before it was in vogue to do so. For example one half of all the light fixtures in the hallways were removed and the remaining fixtures were replaced with low wattage fluorescent fixtures. Additionally nearly every light fixture in the building common areas has been converted to fluorescent fixtures. Timers or photo cells control external lighting. Thermostats on air conditioning and heating systems have been raised to higher temperatures and an aging "energy hog" air conditioning system was replaced last year with a more energy efficient model. The garage exhaust fans are operated by co2 sensors and only come on when required. Exposed hot water piping is insulated to prevent heat loss to the ambient air. In the year 2000 we used the least amount of electrical kilowatt-hours since 1995. The staff has been and continues to make every effort to conserve energy where possible. Frankly there are not too many more areas where consumption can be cut and still maintain the lifestyle homeowners expect in this Association. Similar efforts are underway in the Landscape & Recreation organization to reduce energy consumption/cost.
The Management has been making every effort to keep the ownership informed of items of concern through Board meeting minutes, newsletters, and posted notices in the lobby and elevators. If you have suggestions as to how we can improve, we are always open to constructive criticism, and suggestions.
