Chicago Park District Community meeting
The Chicago Park District will host a community meeting to discuss a poposed artificial turf (grass) field at Abbott Park.

Your testimonies for this Public Hearing is important. The Chicago Park District needs to know how you feel about fake grass. Some other issues you might want to discuss:
Why is there so much permit group activity in Abbott Park while nearby larger parks have less?
Where are designated grill areas in Abbott Park?
Why has nothing been done about parking and driving on grass in the park?
Why is there no signage in park on Michigan & 98th Street?
Why does Park have Events that allow peddling on 95th Street in a "No Peddling Zone. Is it festival planners, CPD, Chicago Police or all?
It would also be nice to know when or if any of the request made by RHCA Park Committee will be met. Requested:
1. Locate designated grilling areas and place signs.
2. Replace Men's room brown stained, cracked urinal
3. The community would like a Covenant: binding agreement that 98th Street Park will not be sold, *Note: This area may have been rezoned from open space to RS-3 Single Unit Detached House District during Harlan's zone change. The land on which Harlan's parking lot is located use to be Park Land, sold in 1961!
4. Replace fence in front of field house with 36" tall fence.
5. Bollards or iron fence positioned along areas of 96th Michigan & 98th & State.
6. NEW LANDSCAPING: in front of Cultural Center (95th Street side).
7. Abbott Park sign with rules at Michigan & 98th Street ,Swing gate for 98th Street park opening and 10:00 pm closing signs posted.
**These concerns are not just RHCA concerns But community concerns. Violations of rules and illegal activities should be reported. Grilling anywhere in the park, disruptive non-permit groups on school grounds & park, soliciting on 95th Street and consuming of alcoholic beverages cannot be curbed or stopped by one or two people! We NEED your help. Send an email write a letter, Call CPD for rule violations , call Police for illegal activities and COME to this meeting, Help us help you!
