10/1/99 Broomfield Problem

Posted in: Country Side
To BBW and Oliver

The "warped sense of reality" you attribute to me: Having been on this board for a few days; do you think any of these people would be interested in a warped sense of reality? Perhaps they just appease me; and let me babble; at least they do not call me names or attribute statements to me that I did not make.

Oliver, I am not paranoid. But I am also aware of safety; and I will not be the target of Stovall's remark of "consequences". Look at the crap you two have hurled my way; if the group does continue with the ballot: is your defense going to be "warped sense of reality"--gee, that sells well.

Sure Broomfield voted; but our puny 8000 votes were bird feed compared to the state of one million plus. And there was nothing but apathy in this town; both sides had up some signs; and there were a few letters to the paper--no big deal. There were no debates, there were no public forums before the issue went to state; the attitude I encountered was so what; it is a state vote. No reason to take sides on this issue; the council sent it to state before us. As you know; Broomfield has an educated society; everyone here saw through the looking glass. Who cares pretty much totals the question. When you don't have a voice; there is no reason for discussion.

After 35 public forums on the Master Plan, six on the Strategic Plan; why were there none on the county issue? Yeah, I went to those and the county idea might have come from one table as a recommendation; and the average number at a table was 7; in a few meetings 9. Hardly a majority; hardly drove anyone out of their chairs to scream and applaud The county was not an issue like the forum on open space; or most recently, saving the Field as open space; additionally ask the commission how many showed up to argue against Lucas Liquors.

You think becoming a county would not have filled a few rooms many times? Why were we not involved?

I have been here many, many years; and, this time, I disagree with the Council.. usually I am on their defense. Nothing in life is an accident; this group forming is not an accident..they have their reasons; I have mine; you have yours; and we can all express them freely and openly. That is a privilege; BBW and Oliver; and I plan on exercising that privilege.

If your view of ethical appeals to most of the voters; then this group will lose. If their view of ethical appeals to most of the voters; then this group wins. Why is there an appeal? Seems so childish to me; I have never been involved in the ballot process; but it seems out state would have a review board that determines what is frivolous and what is not. The decision has been made; flow with it.

Don't expect me to play with personal attacks on your abilities; state of mind, or your person. Nor, do I feel you worthy of a response from me when you play on mine. I have learned one thing in all my years; those who make derogatory remarks about another's person, state of mind, or abilities relate these themselves and have found a method for venting. I will not play these games; I do not consider anyone to be dumb; warped, or inept. Perhaps they do not have personal knowledge to make a decision; but that personal knowledge can be learned. As for the comment about the posts; purely coincidental; it happened when you two joined the discussion. Do I think you have anything to do with it--absolutely not; but had to "tease" some. No personal offense intended; obviously this was upsetting to you; will not even enter the territory again.

If you don't join the board over the weekend; make it be enjoyable with family and friends.

You are very wrong. Broomfield did not keep the jail hush hush. The possibility of the jail being built at Great Western Reservoir was mentioned in the City County Feasibility Study completed in early 1998. As I recall it was also discussed in various newspaper articles.
You have said that you do not let Br. Anonymous determine your thinking. I hope this is the case, but the things you are saying sound just like B.A. and I'm here to tell you this person is not telling you the whole story. B.A.'s perception of things are just that - a perception. They are at odds with reality. B.A. tells you what B.A. thinks you want to hear, not what you need to hear. Do me just one favor. Sit back and read B.A.'s ramblings and have your husband read them. Then, ask yourselves: what is this person all about?

No fear, but I am getting to know you better. You like to accuse people of doing all sorts of things. Fear? Take a look in the mirror at who wrote your message.

I realise we sometimes express a jaded attitude towards the Camera. I, myself, was having fantasies of biting monte whaley's ear off just last week (i'm joking here).

If you deal with the news papers you probably know the experience - in this particular case (last week) we had provided him with some info about where the ballot issue with the Secretary of States office was - and he took the liberty of writing a whole speel about the jail. When the Camera (or Enterprise)prints it, people assume WE said it - but we didn't. It misrepresents what we TRUELY care about and want to do.

And I must say that some reporters seem to be VERY careful to not mis-quote or mis-represent. I think that Nancy Blanchett has honestly recorded what we've said and meant. She reports opposing views as well - and that's how it orr I guess it isn't an easy job to accurately represent... whatever... in every single article a journalist writes. But some sure do a better job than others.
