BBW is playing very stupid

BBW, you really are something, for someone who appears to know so much you sure are persistent in your stupidity.

1. The politicians were Hank Stovall, Mayor Berens, and Larry Cooper - They all distorted the 1996 ballot question and information about those people slated to be annexed. Now do you suppose just anyone could have gotten away with that, no they abused their political power to gain trust and distort information. In fact Vote No BF county has a voice mail tape from Senator Ken Arnold who was sorry about the whole Ref C process because he was led to believe that BF residents voted on it already.

2. Okay the ballot question said should the City "consider" becoming a county, not actually do it. Now why do you suppose it was worded that way. And why do you suppose that prior council woman Anne Crouse is directly quoted in the BF Enterprise after that 1996 ballot question passed that it simply meant to study becoming a county not do it.

3. Perhaps these people may have figured Broomfield would become their own school district because you have school districts called the Adams County S.D., Boulder County S.D. Denver County S.D. get it, catch on now. Yes we know there is a separate mill levy for the schools, but it would be very easy to be confused about this especially as the city of Broomfield failed to conduct any hearing which further discussed the plans to move forward after the February feasibility study. Gee, BBW, why can't you find any documentation about that hearing? You seem to be able to find everything else.

Hi BBW,
I happened on a book about municipal government that I have only started to read. It uses some terms that the author (so far) has not well defined. Although I am getting a general sense of what she is speaking, I want more definition (and, for example, are these common terms or just pet terms of the author). I will be doing some surfing tonight on the topic but thought you might provide insight. These are the terms in question:

Machine politicians
Municipal reformers

Also, has Broomfield (and Westminster, if anyone here knows) aways been of a Mayor-Council type charter?

I am not sure what you are looking for with municipal government but I sure admire your endurance, it is dry reading too!

No, I do not believe BF has always been a mayor council government. If you really want to get something that counts go ahead and get a copy of the Westminster City Charter. Not only will it educate you about municipal government but it will give you great insight into your own City.

Another source is simply to go into the state government web site and look under statutes. It will discuss the differences between home rule charter and state statute run governments. It also discusses city manager/mayor governments, etc...

There is a very good book called Managing Development for People and Wildlife. It is written in cooperation with Colorado Division of Wildlife and Great Outdoors Colorado. What it does is look at Colorado laws and relates them to how we can create better habitat protection, open space, avoid "takings" issues, etc. Call Jim Sinly at 303-296-7460 at CDOW he will know how to get the book for you. They may charge $12.50 plus postage but it will be well worth every dime. Wonderful resource of information.

Joan, Thankyou SO MUCH for your response. These sound like good resources and I will definately follow up on them.

Basically, I have a having a lot of guilt about not paing any attention to these things up til now (in my life). I feel behind in understanding how things are/work in local government ... and want to have all pertenant information in forming my opinions about how things should be.

I've always been into what others consider dry reading (lol). But, do you know the thrill of that "Ah Ha" feeling? I like that.
