C/C - Citizens' Benefits - #1
Okay Adrian, I'll take you at your word. As a citizen of Broomfield, here are some of the major benefits I see for citizens from the city and county of Broomfield. I will have to divide this into benefit areas to adhere to the 600 word limt.
1. Uniformity of Election Procedures. Presently, many counties use mail-in ballots. Boulder County does not. This makes for awkward situations with local Broomfield elections. At times, residents in the Adams County area of Broomfield need to vote twice - a mail in ballot for state and county matters, and then go to the polls to vote on Broomfield matters. With the city/county of Broomfield, all Broomfield citizens will have the same election procedures.

#2. Human Services. Many Broomfield citizens are in need of human services or social services. Since Broomfield is located in four counties, none of these counties focus on Broomfield. Broomfield citizens have reported that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for them to get the services they need. Types of services involved include aid to needy families, aid for the disabled, drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs, child support enforcement, senior citizens' protective services, medicaid, child welfare services, food and nutrition programs. The City and County of Broomfield Human Services Department will be able to provide direct services for all Broomfield citizens in need and will have its office in Broomfield. Human Services was and is one of the most important reasons for pursuing the City and County of Broomfield.

#3. Health Department Services. Four different county health departments attempt to provide some level of service in Broomfield. There is little consistency from one department to another. Broomfield citizens deserve a health department that can focus on Broomfield citizens and businesses and that can be responsive to their needs.
It was interesting when the FBI raided Rocky Flats. One of the allegations was that Rocky Flats had been discharging radioactive and hazardous wastes into Walnut Creek that fed into Great Western Reservor, Broomfield's then drinking water supply. Great Western is located in Jefferson County, but most of Broomfield residents who received drinking water from Great Western lived in the Adams and Boulder county areas of Broomfield. There was all sorts of confusion regarding which county health department had jurisidiction for what. Fortunately, the state health department proved to be very helpful. Nevertheless, the problems with multiple county health departments was readilty apparent.
Another case in point. Sheridan Blvd is the dividing line between Boulder and Adams County. Several years ago, a young boy had significant complications from mosquito bites. Parents on both sides of Sheridan were concerned. One of the county health departments responded reasonably well while the other did not. The parents were very upset about all of this. These type of problems can be erased with a City and County of Broomfield Health Department that will provide services for all Broomfield citizens.

#4. Records - County Clerk and Recorder. When Broomfield residents and businesses need to research county property records, such as deeds, subdivision plats, easements, rights-of-way, they need to travel to Boulder, Brighton, Golden, or Greeley depending on the county area of Broomfield where they reside. With the City and County of Broomfield, all Broomfield citizens wll be able to access these records at the Broomfield Municipal Center.
