Crestmoor Park Heritage, Alice Millett Bakemeier's third
neighborhood history book, explores the 160 acres of Crestmoor. This
intriguing story traces the history of the land from the 1874 High Line
Canal, through its scandalous teens and 1920s, to its emergence as an
exclusive, integrated residential park developed between 1936 and 1941.
Contrasted with this period is a panorama of Crestmoor Park 2nd Filing,
the postwar expansion of this neighborhood to the south and east and
the dramatic changes in house styles, lifestyles and attitudes that
ensued during the next several decades.
Like Alice's previous works, Hilltop Heritage, and Country
Club Heritage, this book is carefully researched and entertaining
reading. Over 130 maps and historic photographs illustrate the text.
The four-color cover, painted by well-known Denver artist Barbara
Froula, pictures the historic farmhouse and cottonwood tree at the
intersection of Ivy and Ivanhoe Streets that have occupied the land for
over a century.
Alice and Barbara will be have a book signing at Tattered
Cover on Friday, September 9th at 7:30 and a slide presentation at
Schlessman Library on October 11th at 7 pm.
