Robbery

Fellow Neighbors, There were 3 robberies committed in this area tonight (Wednesday March 5). There was one that happened somewhere on Statesville Rd and one over at Austin Woods,(the apartment complex on Reames Rd). The other happened on the lower end of Chalkstone Rd, which is here in McIntyre, around 9:40 p.m. A gentleman was coming home from work. When he pulled in his driveway and got out of his car two people appeared from out of the darkness behind houses across the street, pulled a gun on him and demanded he give them everything he had on him and in his car. He did as they said and then they disappeared somewhere around the corner. The gentleman went inside his home and called the Police who happened to be in the neighborhood at the time and were at his home in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately they were not able to apprehend the culprits. CMPD was able to get a description of the two suspects and we will try and get that information from them and any other details that would be helful in the capture of these thieves. PLEASE everyone be aware of your surroundings as you are coming and going from your homes. As we are able to get more details they will be posted. BJ Jones

Mr. Jones, Where specifically are you referring to, "lower end of Chalkstone Rd."? I am a resident on Chalkstone Road and am interested in knowing the location. I will be on alert for anyone or anything abnormal in the area. Plus, Has the association discussed the possibility of installing a "gated-entry" system at the two entrances of the community? I know that this endeavor must be approved with community support, but I think given the recent activities, this should be a priority. Nicholas F. |

Mr Nicholas F, So sorry to have not answered this before now. The robbery happened at the end that intersects with Redding Glen. Unfortunately we have had a few other incidents going on in the community. The gated community idea has been discussed before but I have found that unless you have full time security posted and even then that's not full proof, Thieves will find their way in. The board is currently looking at some options to increase the security here at McIntyre. I hope you will be able to be at the meeting on Sunday. We will be talking about various issues concerning McIntyre that will be very important to our community's future. BJ Jones

As for the gated community issue, that's really funny because a bunch of us were given a different excuse as to why we are not able to have one. It was said that we would need 80% of the homeowners to petition. Which I'm still not sure why that would need to happen. And now it's because it's not fool proof. Hmmmm. Of course nothing is fool proof, not security alarms, cameras and gates but anything that helps and benefits our community and stops crime should at least be looked into further. It would also at least give people a little more piece of mind in my opinion. |
