The City of Tempe Water Util. Dept has reported recent thefts of manhole covers. 49 have been stolen since Sept 2007!

Most often they have been removed from the alleys of single family residential areas. This is a significant safety hazard to our neighbors. It is also a significant cost to the City.

Please locate the manhole cover near your residence, be extra careful driving in your alley, and report to the police immediately if you observe anyone you suspect is stealing them.
