On Monday January 25, 2010, my daughter told me that earlier that day she was approached by two females not of American Nationality.  They told her they could see she was a good person and started talking about Jesus to her.  She told them she had to go to class as she goes to school downtown and they wanted to meet with her after that.  She told them that she would meet them on school property.

After class they were waiting for her.  They wanted to know if she would go to "their prayer house" with them.  I could not believe when she told me she got into a car with strangers.

They arrived at this house which my daughter described as nice. After going inside and up some stairs they told her they had to go back downstairs to take their shoes off.

After some discussion about the bible a woman appeared that my daughter had never saw before and the woman asked her if she was ready.  "Ready"? The woman wanted to have my daughter baptised.  The two young girls my daughter told me took forty minutes to convince her to change into a robe when then she was to step into a shower and have them dump a bucket of water over her head.  My daughter stepped into the room that she was to be baptised in and told me she was wondering how she could get out of there.

Deciding not to do this although she had to go back to school they told her they had a hair dryer she could use and God only knows what would have happened if she had closed her eyes with water dumped on her head.  She told them she had to speak to her Mother about this first.

A man, that she had not told me gave them a ride there, come into the room and asked what was taking so long and why it had not happened yet.

Had what happened yet is what I was thinking when she told me this story.

They did take her back to school.

It made me sick and chills went up and down my spine to think that something like this can happen.  How could my daughter be so blind to get into the car with strangers?  The next day as it was late when she told me this, I called the Louisville Metro Police, an officer showed up and said that no crime had been committed.

I asked the Officer if he would go there with my daughter and find out what is going on.  He declined but told me I could go to the house and call an Officer from the first District and ask them to knock on the door.  I did that, and oh by the way, this is in the Butchertown NeighborHood, and the car she had been in was there..New Jersey liscence plates and another from New York.

I saw some neighbors which lived down the street and drove a few houses down.  They were getting out of their car.  I asked them about these people and they told me these people had moved in about a week ago.  The story I quickly told them and they assured me they would watch out.

I drove around the corner, stopped and called the LMPD again.  I was told that no crime had been committed and we live in a Democracy that people are allowed to practice religion in their home.  He went on to say that if he met me and asked me..a perfect stranger if I wanted to go to his house to watch tv, that it is perfectly legal?

How does this compare to what happened?

Needless to say, nothing was done about this and God help the next person they invite to their home, they may not be as fortunate as my daughter.

My heart goes out to you in this troublesome incident.  Shame, shame on these adults who did not consult with you, the parent.

Thankfully, no crime was committed in this incident.

I agree with the police officer that we live in a free country.

Sadly, we have to tell our children about sexual predators and offenders that live in our neighborhoods and to stay clear of them.  Also we have to tell them that children are abducted.

At the same time, we do have to promote their own sense of judgement and allow them a certain amount of freedom that is appropriate for their age.

I assume your daughter is a teenager and that she will more than likely be out on her own soon.

Now is the time to have some straight talk with her about the realities of real life and to be very cautious about anyone who is a stranger.

And while these supposed Christian people meant to help her and were probably harmless, they used poor judgement in my opionion in their methods.

Let is be a lesson to all of us, especially the adults!
