Happy New Year everyone! The hectic holiday season has come and gone, and we've taken down the Christmas lights and decorations. But don't let our neighborhood go dark!
Statistics show that well-lit areas see much less crime and vandalism. You can visit the U of L National Crime Prevention Institute online at http://louisville.edu/ncpi/ to read more about this research.
As the first task in the Light Up the Neighborhood 2012 project, I would like to encourage all residents to keep your porch light on ALL NIGHT, EVERY NIGHT. If you're worried about the cost of energy, you can replace your porch light with a CFL bulb FREE from LG&E by filling out a simple postcard. LG&E sent out postcards to all residents in November, and will have another campaign in April. Keep a look out for these little cards! These bulbs cost just pennies a day to operate 24/7. HINT: I filled out one LG&E postcard and sent it in about a year ago, and I've been automatically receiving free light bulbs in the mail about 4 times a year ever since! If you have questions on how to get started, please email me.
