Welcome New Members! New Members Welcome!

Mar 22, 2001

A State of the Neighborhood from Dan Jackson, Board President

Well, it's that time of year again. Spring is just around the corner ?– or at least we like to think it is anyway. And who among us doesn't have a touch of Spring Fever? It's this time of year ?– when the grass is starting to come back to life and the tulips are trying to sneak out of the ground a little early ?– that I start thinking about the neighborhood. And as the theme for my "state of the neighborhood" address, let me
speak for the entire board when I say, "Welcome new members" and "New members welcome." Shall I explain?

First ?– ?“Welcome new members.?” Excitedly, as of this printing, 255 out of 480 households are paid-up members of the association ?– and this is great news. The numbers show that this percentage of participating neighbors (53%) is the highest membership rate ever for
Crooked Creek Heights Neighborhood Association. As I said, this is great news and I applaud and welcome you, particularly the 107 neighbors who joined the Association for the first time this year ?– welcome!

The unfortunate flipside to this news is that while this percentage of member-participation brings an income of $7,650 (255 x $30), our yearlong expenses are limited to what we take in (which, including a guestimate on snow removal costs, lighting, lawn mowing, etc. this could easily exceed our income). In order to continue offering to the neighborhood the necessities (such as plowed streets), as well as the fun stuff (Easter Egg Hunt, Annual Picnic, etc.), we need to get more new members. In fact, to meet all our goals, we need to have a neighbor participation rate of more than 90%.

Second ?– ?“New members welcome.?”
Can we do it? Yes, we can do it. If you?’re not a member yet, it?’s easy. Take out your checkbook now and send in a $30 check to the Association. Yes, it?’s only $30. Yes ?– for a whole year of membership. You can mail it to the address on this newsletter. Or, if you prefer, call your district representative, and he/she will come to your house and pick up your check.

If you are a current member, first of all ?– thank you. But let?’s not stop there. I?’d like to ask you to take it a step further. When you?’re talking to your neighbors while you?’re shoveling your drive (let?’s hope not again) or at your mailbox
or on your daily walk, ask them if they?’ve joined the Association yet. Remind them that it?’s only $30 for a whole year of membership. Remind them that the money pays for snow removal, lawn mowing, entrance lighting, newsletters,
social events, etc.

Lastly, I?’d like to thank the many volunteers that make the Association possible. These people give of their time month after month ?– to return calls, write stories, run the e-mail system, plan events, keep the books, attend meetings, type reports, organize snow removal, and all the other stuff that seems to happen invisibly ?– but keeps the neighborhood running smoothly?… and makes Crooked Creek Heights South a great place to live.
