A full neighborhood meeting was held Sunday July 24, 2005 at Rib City. (Our thanks to Lindsey and her crew for the free use of her facility) Apxm. 80 people attended and the meeting was called to order at 4:00.
First in the agenda was a presentation by The Sembler Corp. to show us their site plan for the St. Pete Catholic property on the corner of 66th St. N. and 9th Ave. N. A question and answer period followed and most of the neighbors questions were answered. After Sembler left Lance Lubin President of Eagle Crest spoke. He stated the while the site plan looked very impressive we cannot loose site to the real issue here. Sembler needs a zoning change to be able to build their proposed shopping center but that does not give us the guarantee that the shopping center is what we will get. Once the property's zoning status is changed it will never go back and we could end up with any number of commercial developments there. Possibly a Lowe's, strip malls, or even a Super Wal-Mart could go there. We are invited to attend a multi-neighborhood meeting Wed. Aug. 10 7:00pm at the SPC library community room to discuss how we can best present ourselves to "fight City Hall", at the planning council meeting Tuesday September 13th at 4:00pm at City Hall. The more of us that show up the better our chances are to beat this zoning change. Also you can contact Julie Weston at 898-7111 or by e-mail at julieweston@stpete.org, or rkriseman@stpete.org
Next was a heated discussion of a full neighborhood traffic plan. Mike Fredrick of the city's traffic engineering dept. gave us a rough draft of a proposed plan. Way too many speed humps. Comments were heard both pro and con to the idea of traffic calming and the proposed plan will be revised by the traffic committee. A further meeting will be held for the neighborhood to discuss the latest changes and the process will continue till approved or abandoned. No date as yet has been selected for the next traffic meeting. President Jim Mason urged, though, the property on 66th St and 9th Ave. will be developed in some way and before it is we need some plan in place to curtail excessive traffic in our quiet neighborhood.
A quick discussion on the addition of decrative street lights along 13th Ave from 66th St to 67th St. was entertained and Mort Sherman will persue this further.
Lastly Volunteers were needed to fill some committees and our thanks to Dottie Hutchinson for filling the Secretary spot and to Pat Baznik for help with the welcoming baskets.
Meeting was adjourned apxm. 6:30
