Happy New Year! The HOA board hopes you started the New Year in good health surrounded by family and friends. The New Year traditionally gets us thinking about change, new beginnings and a brighter future. These are the very things we are hoping for in Crown Meadows. Many of you have expressed a desire to re-establish some of the old neighborhood traditions (annual festivals) and other family events (Easter Egg Hunt). We love the ideas and are planning on making this a reality for 2006, but it becomes a reality with your help. Make 2006 the year you become involved in your neighborhood association and help us to revitalize our community.

We will be scheduling another association meeting soon. Please attend! There were some very good issues presented at the last meeting, however, we still did not meet our quorum. According to our by-laws, we are unable to vote new personnel on the board without a quorum. As a resident, you have a right to vote on issues or changes regarding your neighborhood. Attend and exercise your right to vote.

We finally have electricity in the park and will establish a date for disseminating access cards. So pay your association dues as soon as possible. Only residents who are current on dues will receive access cards. In addition, we can not move on to the next phase of the park until we know how much revenue is generated.

According to previous plans, the next phase would be the basketball courts. We already have received some quotes. However, some concern has been expressed about having too many teen children on the courts and potential problems associated with that. I have spoken with numerous other association presidents and they reported that courts have been a source of frustration. Issue reported were: courts being used as gang activity, excessive profanity, destruction of property. Question: do we need the courts? As I look around, I see many children who could benefit from have a basketball court. The decision is the association?’s - - to which you are part of. What do you think? What are your opinions? It is your park!

Have you noticed the increase of graffiti in our neighborhood (the fence alongside Micron Dr, and Ingram Rod dead-end, etc)? Unfortunately, the vandals live in our neighborhood. We know this. Ask your children. You may be surprised. They know who is trashing our community. Board members have received calls from residents who witnessed the acts, but failed to report it to the police. The board appreciates the information, and will do everything possible within our means, but only the police can arrest these vandals. If you do not report vandalism, they will continue and home value will be reduced. We all work hard to live in a decent neighborhood and we must all protect it!

To the parents of the vandals (you know who you are): do yourself and the residents a favor: teach your children to RESPECT their neighborhood and maybe they will not end up in juvenile detention.
